With the threat of more strike action hanging over the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism is again urging hoteliers to meet with their staff to iron out contentious issues.

The industry has been rocked by a spate of strike action over the last few weeks as hotel employees advocate for increased wages and better working conditions. They also complained of not being paid their salaries on time.

There are concerns that the upcoming winter tourist season could be affected by more industry action as the workers are still restive.

But, Delano Seiveright, Senior Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, speaking with Radio Jamaica News on the matter,  called for calm and warned that the continued unrest could affect investments and jobs in the sector which is experiencing several challenges.

The trade unions have urged the government to establish a Joint Industrial Council for the tourism sector, to ensure there are clear guidelines governing operations and the rights of workers.
