Transitional council says life slowly returning to normal in Haiti

Edgar Le Blanc Fils, President of Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council

President of the Transitional Presidential Council Edgar Le Blanc Fils says life is slowly returning to normal in Haiti.

President Le Blanc Fils says the national police alongside the multi-national force led by Kenya have been conducting operations in the metropolitan areas of the CARICOM member state.

He adds that the operations have allowed the authorities to regain control of the main hospital.

"There are signs that life is regaining its normal course in many parts of the Port-au-Prince area and other major cities of Haiti. What we see is a sign of life retaking its normal course and the economic situation improving. A clear sign of that progress was the fact that 80,000 students and the metropolitan area were able to attend to their end of year exams. That's a sign of progress and of clear direction towards a better security situation even if the steps are very small," said the Transitional Council president, who was speaking through an interpreter.

He added that the Council is taking the necessary institutional steps to ensure the staging of an election.
