Two firearms, ammunition, stolen cash seized in Manchester operations

Superintendent Carey Duncan, Commanding Officer of the Manchester Police

The Manchester police were kept busy in separate operations on Monday, recovering two illegal firearms, several rounds of assorted ammunition and cash, believed to have been stolen in St. Andrew.

Members of the Operation Support Unit were reportedly on patrol about 12:30 p.m. when they signalled a motor car to stop.

Police say the driver disobeyed and sped off along the Battersea main road.

Commanding Officer, Superintendent Carey Duncan, said the vehicle was later intercepted with two men aboard.

"The vehicle was searched in their presence and one SSCY 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with 13 9mm cartridges was found. Both men were taken into custody for breaches of the Firearms Act," he reported.

And around 8:35 p.m. police were alerted to another incident in the Battersea area.

Four men were seen searching the area, but upon noticing the police they fled in different locations.

A subsequent search by the police resulted in the recovery of a Taurus 9mm pistol loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Manchester police received information regarding a robbery on Mountain View Avenue in Kingston.

Around 11:30 a.m., a vehicle matching the description of one involved in the robbery was spotted along Greenvale main road.

Police intercepted and searched the vehicle, recovering a large sum of cash in both US and Jamaican currencies.

One man was taken into custody.

"The recovery of these firearms brings us to a total of 21 firearms recovered in the division since the start of 2025 and over a thousand rounds of ammunition. These interceptions and seizures brings into focus our strategic and deliberate policing activities throughout the parish," said Superintendent Duncan.
