Britain’s Conservative government is being criticised for delays in implementing a compensation scheme for persons affected by the Windrush scandal.
According to Holly Lynch, shadow spokesperson on immigration, the government is failing badly in implementing recommendations for righting some of the abuses faced by members of the Windrush generation.
Chris Philp, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Home Department, on Monday said the government has been making the compensation payments and granting citizenship to affected persons.
A number of Jamaicans were victims of the Windrush scandal.
They were among migrants from Commonwealth countries who were wrongly declared illegal immigrants, despite having been granted permission to settle in the UK from the late 1940s to the 1970s.
