The UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has banned the Boeing 737 MAX from operating in or over Britain's airspace.
The CAA says the decision was a precautionary measure which would remain in place until further notice.
In a statement, it said it made the decision because it did not currently have sufficient information from the flight data recorder about Sunday's fatal crash involving the Ethiopian Airlines plane.
It was the second fatal incident involving the 737 Max 8 model in less than five months.
Several other countries, including China, France and Germany have also grounded the jets.
The United States has not followe suit however, asserting that the aircraft are still safe to fly.
