There is a new twist to the case involving J. Wray and
Nephew Limited and the National Workers Union (NWU) which is trying to get 20
former employees of the company reinstated.
The NWU has now signalled that it is willing to discuss a possible out of court settlement with the rum company.
The NWU's pronouncement comes as Wray and Nephew prepares to appeal the Supreme Court's decision to deny it leave to apply for a judicial review of the ruling handed down by the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT).
Wray and Nephew sent the workers home last December and later out-sourced their tasks.
Vice President of the NWU, Granville Valentine, told RJR News the union is willing to go to the negotiating table with Wray and Nephew but on one condition.
"We are willing to sit down at the table at any point in time to discuss all possibilities but we are not going to leave out the IDT award because that must be the basis and the guide on how to move forward," Mr. Valentine said.
