Radio Jamaica News has been informed that five men were fatally shot by the police during a robbery attempt in Negril Square, Westmoreland on Friday morning.
Six firearms were seized.
It's understood that an operation was carried out by the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch.
Acting on intelligence, the police intercepted multiple vehicles, resulting in a shootout where five gunmen were killed and the firearms recovered.
No officer was injured.
The operation continues as local investigators and Marine Police search for additional evidence.
