UWI confirms the end of Ragashanti Live

The University of the West Indies, Mona, has confirmed the resignation of popular talk show host Dr. Kingsley ‘Ragashanti’ Stewart.

The University says Dr. Stewart had resigned with immediate effect from the programme ‘Ragashanti Live’ broadcast on NewsTalk 93FM.  

UWI Communication and Marketing Officers says Ragshanti's departure comes hours after reports surfaced that the popular radio host had been yanked off the air prior to the end of his broadcast on Wednesday morning.

Principal of Mona Campus and Chairman of Universal Media Company Ltd., operators of NewsTalk 93 FM, Professor Gordon Shirley said he had received an email from Ragashanti.

The email stated that effective Wednesday September 1, “the programme ‘Ragashanti Live" would no longer broadcast from Newstalk 93 FM effective Wednesday September 1, 2010.

According to the University the Board of Management of the station after careful review of the matter determined that in the best interest of the University, the station, that the programme should be discontinued with immediate effect and appropriate music played until further notice.

Newstalk sources revealed that about 11 o’clock Wednesday morning Ragashanti was conducting his usual morning banter, when the technical operator was reportedly advised to cut his microphone.

It is not yet clear who gave the directives for Dr. Stewart's programme to end before its scheduled mid-day deadline.
