Halshane Burke reports
The last known person believed to have spoken with social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson testified that she sounded like she was on the road when they spoke on July 12, 2022.
Donna-Lee's boyfriend, Constable Noel Maitland, is on trial in the Home Circuit Court for murder and preventing the lawful burial of a corpse in connection with her disappearance.
The 24-year-old social media influencer was reported missing on July 13, 2022.
Donna-Lee's mother and the prosecution's main witness, Sophia Lugg, previously testified that Mr. Maitland had picked up her daughter from home on July 11, and that she last spoke with her the following morning, but has not been able to reach her since.
The prosecution's second witness, who last week testified that she shared a close relationship with Donna-Lee, told the court she spoke with her via cell phone about 2 p.m. July 12.
The witness said during their conversation, she was of the impression that Donna-Lee was on the road based on what appeared to be noise from traffic.
But during cross-examination from Constable Maitland's attorney, Christopher Townsend, the witness admitted she did not disclose this information in her evidence in chief.
She further told the court that the information was outlined in her statement.
The witness agreed that she was aware that Donna-Lee and the mother of Mr. Maitland's child had an ongoing dispute.
Prior to Tuesday's adjournment, a director of complaints at INDECOM told the court that he visited Donna-Lee's father in the Bahamas in September 2022 and took a DNA sample.
The witness also recorded a statement from Donna-Lee's father, which was read in court.
Her father said he last spoke with Donna-Lee on July 12, after which she sent him a message with the correct spelling of her name and address to send her money.
The court heard that the father sent the money via a remittance company.
In his statement, the father said he sent the tracking number to Donna-Lee via text at 10:54 a.m., but only saw one tick, which indicated that she did not receive the message.
Her father said it was unusual for Donna-Lee not to reply, "Thank you, dad."
Meanwhile, his sister told the court that her brother died on January 19 last year and that Donna-Lee was his last child.
The prosecution is to call its fifth witness on Wednesday.
