Water tank collapses in Longville Park

Residents in a section of the Longville Park housing scheme in Clarendon got a great fright on Thursday morning when the water tank which served their community collapsed spilling gallons of water into their homes.

The tank, which is located behind several houses, collapsed just after 10 o'clock Thursday morning, toppling the fence around the facility sending water flowing into homes.

When our news team got to the area we saw that the tank had caved in resulting in the huge spill.

One Resident Heather Allwood said her furniture was damaged as the water gushed through her home, told us what happened.

“We were on the road and we heard a banging sound and when I ran to see what it was the water was rushing down and I had to turn back. I had to come inside grab the kids and run out,” she said.

Representatives of the National Water Commission, who quickly came to the site of the spill, said an investigation will be carried out into what caused the collapse.

“We are presently doing an assessment to see the extent of the damage and make provisions so the community can still have water, there is water in the other tanks that are intact,” Mr. Morgan said.
