Antigua & Barbuda plans to build a forensic laboratory with assistance from the Chinese Government.
For many years law enforcement officials have been calling for this facility, to assist in solving crimes and identifying human remains more quickly.
Several cases before the courts have been the subject of delays on multiple occasions over a lack of forensic reports, including those of a murdered customs officer and a missing teen.
Officials say the backlog of unidentified bodies has also caused delays in burial proceedings due to lack of a concrete report on the cause of death.
Antigua & Barbuda is among numerous OECS countries which send their DNA test samples to Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica where there are forensic labs of the required standard.
