Religious tension
between voodoo practitioners and evangelical Christians in Haiti is rising.
Haiti's supreme voodoo leader has threatened retaliation against Evangelicals who this week attacked a ceremony organised by his religious group.
The event, in the Cite Soleil slum in the capital Port-au-Prince, was held to honour the thousands killed in last month's earthquake.
Voodoo chief Max Beauvoir has vowed to wage a war against those targeting the members of his religion.
Some of those who have converted from voodooism to Christianity said they did so because they believed God caused the earthquake.
Tuesday's voodoo ceremony was violently disrupted by a crowd of evangelicals.
The Haitian police say the incident occurred after a pastor urged his followers to attack the ceremony which resulted in crowds of people throwing rocks at the voodoo followers.
One of the voodooists said they were preparing for prayer when they attack was launched.
Another who called the evangelicals chimère or evil believe that those who attacked them were agents of the devil.
Mr. Beauvoir claims that the Protestant Evangelicals attacked the ceremony along with other people they hired, causing a number of injuries.
He also accused the evangelical denominations of using post earthquake relief supplies like food and medicine to try to buy souls.
He said the voodooists were not the aggressors but they will have to respond with the same type of aggression.
