Prime Minister of St Lucia Philip J. Pierre has expressed “profound sadness” following the deadly marine collision off the west coast of the island that has claimed at least three lives, left several people injured and prompted a search for one missing person.
The head-on collision occurred early Sunday in waters between Soufrière and Canaries, near Anse Cochon.
The crash involved one vessel travelling south and another heading north.
At least three persons are reported dead, several others were injured and one remains missing.
Several passengers reportedly suffered serious injuries, including broken arms and legs.
Rescuers said some survivors were found clinging to the wreckage before they were brought ashore to a nearby beach, where they received emergency medical treatment.
In a statement on Sunday, Prime Minister Pierre extended condolence on behalf of the Government and people of St. Lucia to the families of the victims of the tragedy.
