After eclipsing a 45 year old national record, Mississippi State junior Navasky Anderson is already eyeing returning to Eugene, Oregon at next month's World Athletics Championships.

The 22 year old admits that he was eyeing the top spot at last night's NCAA Championships 800m final, but was happy to walk away with a massive achievement. The former St Jago High student athlete says the national record was always a motivation.

Anderson clocked 1 minute, 45.02 seconds to take silver at the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Friday. The previous record was 1:45:21 set in 1977 by Seymour Newman.

Meanwhile, national record holder Lamara Distin added the NCAA outdoor title to her indoor crown from earlier this year after winning the high jump championship for Texas A&M with a leap of 1.95 metres.

The mark was just two centimetres short of the 1.97 metre national record Distin set in Texas on April 30.

Elsewhere, former Hydel High athlete Charokee Young took the runner-up spot in the women's 400 metre final in 50.65 seconds. Compatriot Stacy-Ann Williams was fifth in 51.13 seconds.

Earlier, Kemba Nelson finished second in the women's 100 metre final in a time of 11.02 seconds, while another Jamaican, Kevona Davis was 7th in 11.21.

The race was won by St Lucia's Julien Alfred of the University of Texas in 11.01 seconds. Davis then returned to clock 22.50 seconds for 5th in the 200 metres.

Former Vere Technical athlete Demisha Roswell was a 7th place finisher in the women's 100 metre hurdles, clocking 12.94 seconds. In the field, Gabrielle Bailey finished 18th in the discus throw with a best effort of 50.10 metres.
