Bolt's statue to be unveiled on December 3

The Government has confirmed that Usain Bolt's statue will finally be unveiled on Sunday, December 3 in Statue Park, located infront the National Stadium at the Independence Park Complex.

Sports Minister Olivia Grange who indicated that NACAC president Victor Lopez will be among the invited guests, says the unveiling to be done by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, will be followed by a reception for Jamaica's athletes who competed at this summer's IAAF World Championships in London.

“We’re all set to unveil Usain Bolt’s statue. The statue has been here now for a few weeks in storage. The base is now ready for mounting of the statue. The statue will be mounted and will be in place for Sunday, December 3,” said Minister Grange.

The Bolt statue was designed by renowned Jamaican sculptor Basil Watson. It's the first of four statues of national sports stars that were commissioned by the sports ministry. Watson is also working on sculptures of Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Veronica Campbell-Brown and Asafa Powell.
