Hetmyer and Dowrich score centuries for Windies in warm-up contest

Shimron Hetmyer and wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich scored fighting centuries for the touring West Indians on day one of their two-day tour match against Leicestershire at Grace Road as they continue preparations for the crucial third test against hosts England starting Thursday, September 7.

The Caribbean men declared the first innings at 377- 7 at stumps, after earlier struggling at 64-5, having won the toss and decided to bat. The fightback was led by Kieran Powell with 82, Shimron Hetmyer 128 and wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich 108. Hetmyer and Dowrich put on an eighth wicket stand of 186, having come together with the score on 191-7.

The other batsmen who found runs hard to come by were Kraigg Brathwaite with 2, Kyle Hope 1, second test hero Shai Hope for 28, Roston Chase 3, Jermaine Blackwood for a duck and skipper Jason Holder for 4.

Dieter Klein has been the pick of the Leicestershire bowlers with 3-77, while Gavin Griffiths took 2-70.cThe three match test series between the Windies and England is locked at 1-1 after the Caribbean side pulled off a pulsating 5-wicket win earlier this week at Headingly to rebound from an embarrassing innings and 209 run defeat in the first test.
