National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says the Jamaica Constabulary Force has its full complement of 14,000 police personnel to be deployed across the island to combat crime and violence.

Dr. Chang told the House of Representatives that the massive recruitment drive which began in 2016 has been a major success, adding that people with degrees and other academic qualifications are signing up to join the JCF.

"For the first time, the country has a trained establishment of law enforcement officers in police force. The recruitment continued even during COVID. We leased Camp Verley in St. Catherine, acquired Tranquility Bay and rehabilitated Harman Barracks, while improving the facilities at Twickenham Park, which is now seen as one of the finest police training facilities meeting international standards," touted the minister.

Dr. Chang noted that the country has been able to train and graduate nearly 6,000 police officers since 2016.

He was making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives Tuesday.
