14 runners are listed to face the starter in both the Supreme Ventures 1000 and 2000 Guineas, the first two classics of the 2018 local racing season later this month at Caymanas Park. Champion two year old Marquesas from the stables of Michael Marlowe, headlines the entries for the 44th running of 2000 Guineas for colts and geldings over a mile for a purse of $3.5 million on Sunday, April 15.
El Professor from the barn of Fitzroy Glispie along with Rowan Mathie's Another Vigorous, Commader Two trained by Patrick Taylor and Drummer Boy from the stables of 17-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, are the other noteworthy contenders.
Meanwhile, Honey Ryda who is trained by Richard Azan, heads the line-up for the 1000 Guineas for native-bred 3 year old fillies also over a mile on Saturday, April 14. Brandy along with the Patrick Lynch-trained Disability Charm who won the Thornbird Stakes,Band of Gold, the winner of the Hotline Stakes and Lici's Pepsi are the other main hopefuls.
Honey Ryda has been the only filly to have beaten the colts. The 2000 Guineas will mark the first time in the history of racing at Caymanas Park that a classic will be run on a Sunday.
