Hydel strike double success at Penn Relays

Hydel High girls were double winners on Friday's second day the 128th Penn Relays being staged at the Franklin Field Stadium at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Hydel defended their Championship of America 4x100m title, clocking 44.71 seconds to lead home a Jamaican 1-2-3 finish in the event. Edwin Allen took second in 44.96 seconds, while St Jago were third in 45.14.

Hydel returned to win Championship of America 4x400m, clocking 3 minutes, 34.78 seconds in a close battle.

Edwin Allen was beaten into second place in the Championship of America 4x800m, clocking 8 minutes, 50.76 seconds behind winners Union Catholic 8 minutes, 41.20 seconds.

On the boys’ side, Chad Hendricks of Munro College won the discus throw with a mark of 66.17m, while Shaiquan Dunn of Jamaica college captured the shot put with 20.13m.

Balvin Israel of Jamaica College leapt 7.24 metres to win the boys long jump ahead of Nathan Wade of Kingston College who registered 7.09 metres for seconds.

Chavez Penn of JC led home a Jamaican 1-2-3 finish in the boys triple jump leaping to 15.38 metres to win the event.

On the track, Jamaica College was the fastest qualifier to the Championship of America 4x800m final after clocking 7 minutes, 45.38 seconds to win their heat.

Seven Jamaican schools progressed to the Championship of America boys 4x100m including Excelsior who had the fastest qualifying time of 40.62 seconds.

The preliminaries and final of the 4x400m will also be contested on Saturday.
