Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) president, Dr Warren Blake, says it may not make sense to stage the National Championships with only local based athletes.
The Gleaner reported on Saturday that the JAAA will likely cancel the National Championships at its next board meeting this coming Wednesday, and Dr Blake has explained that that would be the likely decision.
He said given the fact that more than half of the country’s senior athletes who would compete at the championships are based overseas, it means they would have to come into the island ahead of time and go into quarantine.
The JAAA boss added that staging a national championship with only local-based athletes would not have been an attractive product.
World Athletics has reserved the weekend of August 8 and 9 for countries who are interested in staging their national championships.
