While Jamaica is set to lose the men's sprint relay gold from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the nation's medal tally will remain at eleven.
This as long jumper Chelsea Hammond who placed 4th at the event, is set to be upgraded to the bronze medal after Russian star, Tatyana Lebedeva, was stripped of her silver medal for traces of the banned steroid turinabol.
Hammond who is now retired from the sport, produced a best effort of 6.79 metres. Brazilian Maureen Magi won with 7.04 metres, while Lebedeva had placed second with 7.03 metres and Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare third at 6.91 metres. The 2008 Olympic Games was the only time Hammond represented Jamaica at a global championship.
Meanwhile, Jamaica Olympic Association president Mike Fennell says Nesta Carter's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) could cost approximately US $100,000.
“There is the cost for the Court of Arbitration of Sport that one has to pay when you refer a case to them plus other costs to be added such as the cost for personal lawyers and technical expertise you may have to employ in presenting your case before the arbitration panel. It is question of national interest and we have to look at it in the broader context,” said Fennell.
On Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee announced that Carter’s sample from the Beijing 2008 Olympics, had produced an adverse analytical finding for the stimulant methylhexanamine following the retesting of his sample.
