Voice of former FIFA referee Peter Prendergast

Former FIFA referee Peter Prendergast is calling for more protection of match officials following Saturday's incident where a referee was assaulted be members of the Dinthill Technical DaCosta Cup team.

Three players have now been suspended for between three and five days by principal of Dinthill Technical Anthony Garwood who himself is a former FIFA referee.

Speaking to Radio Jamaica Sports, Prendergast noted that often times referees are forced to allow the commencement of games despite not having the required security measures in place.

Meanwhile, Predergast says this is an opportunity for ISSA to send a strong message to all players that such behavior will not be tolerated.

A letter obtained by Radio Jamaica Sports, under the signature of  principal Garwood to the school's administration, stated that one player who shoved the referee, has been suspended for 5 days; banned from participating in any extra-curricular activities for the remainder of the season and referred to the dispute resolution foundation.

The other two players have been suspended for three days each for gross misconduct on the field of play after the game.

One of the players will be receiving counselling after returning from suspension on September 27.
