Card and Dockery shine on opening day of Carifta Trials

Gary Card of Wolmer's Boys and Lacovia High's Sabrina Dockery shun brightly on Friday's opening day of the JAAA Carifta track and field trials at GC Foster College, as they took the respective Under-20 100 metre titles.

Card sped to a season's best 10.21 seconds to win the Under-20 boys event ahead of the Calabar pair of Shaquane Gordon 10.36 and Jamal Stephenson 10.41 seconds.

Dockery clocked 11.30 seconds to win the Under-20 girls equivalent. She held off Shanoya Douglas of Mushcett High who was second in 11.35 and Abigail Wolfe of Wolmer's Girls third in 11.63 seconds.

The Under-17 boys 100 metres was won by Holmwood Technical's Jaydon Collins who sped to 10.60 seconds. He finished ahead of Michael Graham of Excelsior who was second in 10.63 and Byron Walker of Calabar third in 10.71 seconds.

Adodra Campbell of St Jago High took the Under-17 girls section in 11.59 seconds. She won ahead of Shayon Smith of St Mary High who clocked 11.73, the same time as Rihanna Scott of Ferncourt High. 

Meanwhile, 16 finals are scheduled to be contested Saturday's second day including the 400m and 1500 metres.
 
Saturday's action gets underway at 9:00 am with the boys octathlon 100 metres. The 3-day meet is being used to select Jamaica's team for the Carifta Games set for April 19-21 in Trinidad and Tobago.
