Reigning national outdoor champion Rajindra Campbell signalled his readiness for the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships set for March 1-3 in Glascow, Scotland, by breaking his own national indoor record at Friday’s World Indoor Tour Gold Meet in Madrid, Spain.
Campbell’s effort of 22.16 metres which came from his 6th and final attempt, was also a meet record which moved him up to 12th on the indoor all-time list. He finished ahead of New Zealand's Tom Walsh who threw 22.03 metres and Italian Leonardo Fabbri.
Campbell's broke his own previous national indoor record of 21.13 metres set on January 27.
Meanwhile, Campbell headlines an 8-member men's team selected for the World Indoor Championships in Glascow.
2019 world outdoor long jump champion Tajay Gayle is also in the team along with Carey McLeod, Ackeem Blake, Tyler Mason, Damion Thomas, Giano Roberts and Rusheen McDonald.
3-time world indoor triple jump medalist Kimberly Williams headlines the 16-member women's team.
Shasha Lee Forbes, Briana Williams, Tina Clayton, Stacey-Ann Williams, Charokee Young, Junelle Bromfield, Stephanie McPherson, Andrenette Knight, Leah Anderson, Lanae-Tava Thomas, Natoya Goule, and Danielle Thomas-Dodd are the other members of the team.
Former JAAA president Dr Warren Blake is the manager of the team, while Maurice Wilson is the Technical Leader.
