Referees go on strike in ISSA basketball competition

No matches were played on Friday in the ISSA Schoolboy Basketball Competition after the referees reportedly went on strike over an unresolved matter which reportedly took place over a year ago. Third vice-president of the Jamaica Basketball Association Marland Nattie explained what caused the dispute.

“One of their referees, Edward Marshall had committed a breach in his execution of a game and as such, ISSA had asked that he not be assigned to any more games based on the fact that when the incident happened, the chairperson for ISSA was on spot and had asked him to correct it and it was not followed,” noted Nattie.

Nattie says the association then received a letter from ISSA outlining their decision not to assign any other games to the referee which apparently has angered his colleagues. Nattie says a meeting will be held next Friday where the matter will be discussed with the aim of finding a resolution.
