Tomlinson set to represent Jamaica at Commonwealth Games

Voice of JTTA president Andrew Lue

Despite not representing the country at the recent Caribbean senior championships, reigning national table tennis champion Simon Tomlinson looks set to take part at the Commonwealth games this summer, putting an end to fears that he has called time on his career.

Tomlinson who missed out on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympic Games last year, had hinted at retiring before the 2024 Games in Paris.

The multiple national champion also turned down the opportunity to represent Jamaica at the Caribbean Senior Championships earlier this year, citing personal commitments.

Radio Jamaica Sports also understands that the local governing body, the Jamaica Table Tennis Association, was also unsure as to whether Tomlinson would be available for the games in Birmingham.

However, JTTA president Andrew Lue told Radio Jamaica Sports recently that Jamaica will be sending a 3-member team including Tomlinson to the Commonwealth Games.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games is set to run from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England.
