India defeated the West Indies by five wickets in the final of three One Day International cricket matches on Wednesday, thereby taking the series 2-1. Scores in the match: West Indies (batting first) - 263/5, India - 266/5.
The West Indians, sent in to bat, were contained by the Indians' bowling, as a result of which, although three batsmen got past 50, none was able to pick up the scoring and move on to a century. Marlon Samuels top scored with 71, just one more than Kieran Powell's 70 while Darren Bravo made 51 not-out.
This has been a season of fast scoring, high scoring ODIs in India, however, and so with Darren Sammy's 37 not out, at a strike rate of 127.58, being the only innings with a strike rate of more than 100, the target was always going to be relatively straightforward for the hosts.
This proved to be the case. Shikhar Dhawan led the way with 119, including 20 fours, off 95 balls. Yuvraj Singh also contributed 55, with other useful scores coming from Captain MS Dhoni, Raina and Kohli.
Ravi Rampaul and Dwayne Bravo were the leading bowlers for the West Indies with two wickets each.
Having lost the test series 0-2 and the ODI's 1-2, to India, the West Indies will now focus on lower ranked New Zealand in a similar test and one-day tour, with some members of the test squad already in New Zealand.
