Windies made to toil on opening day of 2nd test against England

Off-spinner Kevin Sinclair says the West Indies are grateful for dismissing England for 416 on day one of the second test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham right at the end of the day's play.

After losing a wicket on the third ball of the day when Alzarri Joseph dismissed Zak Crawley, England pounded 416 in 88.3 overs.

Ollie Pope notched a sixth test century, 121 and shared in a 105 run second wicket stand with Ben Duckett.

Duckett and Pope raised the team's 50 in 26 balls, the fastest ever in test history. Duckett made 71, while captain Ben Stokes contributed 69. England were at one stage 342-5 before losing the remaining wickets for 74 runs.

Joseph finished with 3-98, while Kavem Hodge claimed 2-44, Sinclair 2-73 and Jayden Seales 2-90, as the Windies dropped 4 chances.

The West Indies were forced into a change just before the toss with Sinclair replacing his countryman Gudakesh Motie who woke up feeling unwell.

The West Indies trail the three match series 1-0 after a crushing innings 114 run defeat in the opener at Lord's last week.

Play resumes at 5:00 am Jamaica time on Friday.
