Bassarath nominated for CWI VP reelection

Jamaica Cricket Association as well as the Leeward Islands Cricket Association have given support for the return of Azim Bassarath to the post of Cricket West Indies (CWI)  vice-president. Bassarath is the lone nominee for the position following the close of nominations for the September 20 poll.

On Monday, Bassarath was forced to vacate the position following a judicial pronouncement from the High Court of Guyana.

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) had argued that Bassarath should not have been allowed to take office after they withdrew their nomination of the Trinidadian ahead of the election.

CWI said the upcoming election will provide a timely resolution to the current vacancy in the office of the vice president and reinforce its commitment to fair governance.

Additionally, CWI said the organization looks forward to the completion of this robust and transparent electoral process while continuing its efforts to advance the sport of cricket across the region.
