Pageant world rocked by death of Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst

The Miss Universe and Miss USA Organizations have expressed their devastation at the death of Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst.

The 30-year-old beauty queen, broadcaster and defense attorney died by apparent suicide on Sunday.

In a post of social media, the organizations encouraged persons who are struggling with suicidal thoughts or are experiencing mental health issues, to seek help via the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.

Reigning Miss World, Jamaica's Toni Ann Singh and former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi have also reacted with shock and grief at Kryst's death.

Kryst was a part of a history-making year for beauty pageants when, for the first time, the Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss America titles were all held by black women.
