Asafa Powell
Social media has reacted negatively to former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell's paternity test request for his seven year old daughter.
The request for a test came after Powell was taken to court for child maintenance by his daughter's mother Amita Persaud-Webb.
There was an alleged informal agreement between the two for payment of $25,000 monthly, however, Powell reportedly did not honour that agreement.
Persaud-Webb is now seeking an increased amount of $40,000 monthly.
Since news of the court case, fans have hit out against the sprinter stating that he has publicly acknowledged the child for years, and his current request is an act of vindictiveness.
The Kingston and St. Andrew family court on Thursday placed a gag order on both parties.
They are to return to court on October 9.
