Roddy Riich wins best new artiste, album of the year at BET Awards

Roddy Riich won best new artiste and album of the year at yesterday's staging of the 20th anniversary of the BET Awards.
 
Hosted by Insecure star Amanda Seales, the show was held virtually due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
 
Beyonce was presented with the lifetime achievement award by former first lady Michelle Obama, adding to the HER Award for the single Brown Skin Girl with daughter Blue Ivy.
 
Best male and female Hip Hop acts were DaBaby and Megan the Stallion, while Lizzo and Chris Brown were honoured best female and male R&B/Pop artiste.
 
Kirk Franklin copped the gospel award.
 
Issa Rae and Michael B Jordan won in the acting categories while Simone BIles and Lebron James won for sports.
 
Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson's portrayal of Aretha Franklin was premiered during the ceremony.
 
The new trailer for the upcoming film, Respect features scenes from Franklin's rise to fame, her signing with a music manager and the legendary singer belting out the song Respect.
 
The movie also stars Mary J. Blige, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans and Queen Latifah.
 
Franklin, who in 2018 died of pancreatic cancer at age 76, was a producer on the film.
 
Scheduled for an August release, it was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
 
It will now be in theaters on limited release on December 25.
