Sesame Street introducing new Korean American character

Popular television series Sesame Street is introducing a new Korean American character, in its continued promotion of racial justice.

Seven-year-old Ji-Young will be a part of See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special, set to air on US Thanksgiving Day, November 25.

The special is dubbed a celebration of the rich diversity of Asian and Pacific Islanders and aims to support families of all backgrounds through ongoing conversations about race.

The show's creators say it is important and powerful for children to see people like themselves represented on screen and in stories.

See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special will air on multiple platforms, including PBS KIDS and Sesame Street's YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram channels.
