The Banana Board is developing protocols to boost plantain production as it looks to meet market demand and increase earnings from the crop.
Janet Conie, General Manager of the Banana Board, told the JIS that the revenue potential for plantain is significant, rivalling that of banana.
Ms Conie says preparatory work is under way to establish protocols to improve and formalise cultivation of the crop to supply local, regional, and international markets.
These include markets in Cayman Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.
