JN launches digital wallet for JAM-DEX

Jamaica has another digital wallet for the local central bank digital currency, JAM-DEX.

The Bank of Jamaica has announced that Jamaica National has been added to the central bank's system as a digital wallet provider to distribute JAM-DEX.

The BOJ says on December 30 2022, JN Bank received $1 million worth of digital currency.

This makes JN Bank the second deposit taking institution in Jamaica to launch a CDBC wallet.

This comes just over a year after National Commercial Bank's fin-tech arm launched the digital wallet "Lynk".

The BOJ says there is still some work to be done with JN before making the platform available to the public, however, it says the finalising work is at an advanced stage.

It should be fully operational this year.
