The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is calling for the government to implement stiffer penalties on persons convicted of vandalising or stealing telephone cables.
The call comes in the wake of a recent meeting between William Mahfood, PSOJ head, and the country's three telecoms firms, Digicel, Flow and LIME.
The PSOJ is of the view that the frequent theft ofcopper cable and the tampering with telephone lines should be deemed a serious crime.
Mahfood says, if left unchecked, copper cable theft could have serious implications for attracting investors, especially in the logistics sector.
