Russia-led BRICS summit bids to counter western dominance

While the IMF and its sister agency the World Bank are meeting in Washington DC to strengthen western dominance of the world's financial and trading systems, Russia is hosting a summit of BRICS nations to discuss how to break that deadlock.

Countries joining Russia at the BRICS summit are China, India, Turkey, Iran and Saudia Arabia.

They are discussing greater levels of financial cooperation, including the development of an alternative to the western dominated SWIFT which they say is being used as a weapon by the USA against countries with which it disagrees.

Russia was recently locked out of the system because of its invasion and ongoing war with Ukraine.
