Tax offices in each parish to open on Saturdays

 

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will be opening select tax offices in every parish across the island on a Saturday.

 

This is according to Finance Minister Fayval Williams, who made the announcement as she opened the Budget Debate on Tuesday.

 

She said the move is to make it easier for people to pay taxes.

 

"We should make it as easy as possible for Jamaicans to pay their taxes. It doesn't make sense to me that Jamaicans will wake up early on a weekday morning, wait for a bus or a taxi, journey many miles from their homes to get to a tax office, and they get there and have to wait in line. We should be rolling out the red carpet for taxpayers who told us in a survey that I showed you earlier that they understand the implication if TAJ does not collect taxes," she declared. 

 

The minister said the dates for the start of Saturday openings will be announced.
