CEO of Trade Winds Peter McConnell says although a Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Survey indicated that 66 per cent of respondents said they would invest in the country's agricultural sector, affordable and accessible financing remains a major constraint.
He says this is part of the reason his company stopped borrowing and invested more than 70 per cent of its profits back into the business.
Mr McConnell believes there needs to be a better appreciation for the importance of agriculture to employment creation, tourism linkages and foreign exchange earnings as well as easier access to capital.
