Travel industry happy as UK ends all COVID-19 measures

The UK Government's decision to scrap all remaining COVID-19 travel measures on Friday has been welcomed by some figures in the travel industry.

The industry had campaigned for the remaining rules to be dropped so businesses can take full advantage of strong summer holiday demand.

UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps says the rules will end at 4:00 a.m.

His announcement means that passengers who are not fully vaccinated will no longer have to take COVID-19 tests before and after travelling to the UK.

The passenger locator form will also no longer be necessary.

Tim Alderslade, Chief Executive Officer of trade body Airlines UK, said Monday's announcement sends a clear message to the world that the UK travel sector is back.
