The Wisynco Group is to expand its production on Tuesday to produce the Minute Maid line of products and eye the export market.
William Mahfood, Chief Executive Officer of Wisynco Group, said the expansion into the production of Minute Maid products results from the signing of an exclusive franchise arrangement with Coca Cola, in December.
That signing saw Wisynco investing US$8 million in expanding production capacity and will see the first batch of locally-made Minute Maid juices rolling off the production line.
"We will be producing under the Minute Maid franchise both orange and pineapple juices. These products were previously imported, some of them from Trinidad and what we’re doing with the capacity that we installed last year and with this partnership with Coca Cola, we’ll replace all those previous imports from Trinidad and the United States with Jamaican production," Mr. Mahfood said.
He added that the expanded capacity at Wisynco, which allows it to produce Minute Maid juices, has so far resulted in the creation of 300 jobs.
Additionally, he said the company is eyeing the overseas market with the Minute Maid products once they have fully utilised capacity in the local market.
"We've put in a lot more capacity. We’ve doubled our capacity in the last few years and the intention is that once we have addition capacity, we’ll start shipping to some of the other northern Caribbean markets as well," Mr. Mahfood added.
