Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston West Police
A 16-year-old boy is dead following a confrontation involving the police and gunmen in Rose Town, Kingston on Tuesday morning.
He has been identified as Jamari Thomas.
Shortly after midnight, a police team was on patrol in Rose Town when it was reportedly fired on by gunmen.
This led to a shootout.
When the gunfire subsided the teenager was found suffering from bullet wounds.
He died at hospital.
Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston West Police, told Radio Jamaica News the teenager was linked to the 'Indiscipline' gang in the Rose Town community.
The police have identify two persons of interest in connection with the shooting.
