18 year-old Jamaican arrested for murder in the US

Police in the US state of Connecticut have arrested an 18 year-old male illegal immigrant from Jamaica on murder charges related to the shooting death of a 12 year-old boy last week.

Bridgeport police captain Brian Fitzgerald on Monday announced the charges against Tajay Chambers.

He said they stemmed from the December 18 death of Clinton Howell outside his family's home on Willow Street.

Mr. Chambers is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.

He is facing charges of murder, murder with special circumstances, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, illegal possession of a firearm without a permit, risk of injury to a child, reckless endangerment, and larceny.

Three minors who were involved in the incident have also been arrested.

The three juveniles are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder,  carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit and larceny.

Captain Fitzgerald said last week Tuesday, Mr. Chambers and the three boys were riding around the city in a stolen car when they got into a verbal argument with other people on Willow Street.

The argument escalated, and Mr. Chambers fired two shots at the group.

The police believe that 12 year-old Clinton Howell, who was shot twice in front of his home, was not the intended target.

Mr. Chambers has been in jail since December 19, after being accused of attacking a 16 year-old boy in an unrelated incident.
