Alleged 100 Lane gang leader fatally shot by police

The alleged leader of a gang in the 100 Lane area of Red Hills Road in St. Andrew was fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Shaquille Dawkins.

A firearm was reportedly seized.

Acting Superintendent Randy Sweeney, Commanding officer for the St. Andrew North Police Division, says some time after 8 a.m. a police team conducted an operation at 100 Lane.

Mr. Dawkins allegedly confronted the police and was shot.

But his relatives have disputed the police report. A cousin told Radio Jamaica News that Mr. Dawkins was shot in front of his young children and a gun planted at the scene.
