The Ministry of Education has expressed confidence that there will be improved results in CSEC Mathematics exams this year, following successful Easter Math camps that were held in targeted schools, with "at least 47 per cent of our students who are registered for CSEC being present," at the camps.
The initiative was launched in response to a low pass rate in the core subject in the May/June 2024 sitting, with only 39 per cent of students receiving a passing grade.
Acting Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education Terry-Ann Thomas Gayle reported earlier this week at the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing that 46 of the 56 schools targeted participated in the camps that were open to students sitting Math in CSEC and City & Guild.
Additionally, the ministry revealed that all high schools hosted camps for Math and English over the Easter break.
Coming out of this year's staging of the preparation camps, Education Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon is hoping for a better turnout next year, adding that she received positive feedback from students who participated.
