The American flight attendant who the Jamaica Constabulary Force said fraudulently claimed she was kidnapped in Jamaica is now denying that she did so.
The initial claims by Kalina Collier about her situation on her social media account resulted in several of her followers calling for a boycott of Jamaica.
But the police said the Jetblue employee had tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed in isolation, in keeping with Jamaica's prevention protocols.
Hours after departing Jamaica on Sunday, Ms Collier said she was never missing or kidnapped.
She maintained her complaints about the hotel at which she was quarantined however and hinted that she would be taking legal action.
The United States Embassy in Kingston commented on the matter on Sunday, saying it was aware of reports of a U.S. citizen who had recently traveled to Jamaica and claimed to have been held against their will.
It said, while it fully investigates claims of unlawful detention, it cannot release any information about a U.S. citizen without the person’s written consent.
