Alric Campbell, Councillor for the Edgewater Division
The Portmore and St. Catherine municipal corporations are partnering to have an abandoned building, described as a haven for criminals, demolished.
The unfinished structure, deemed a public nuisance, is located in Edgewater, Portmore.
Alric Campbell, Councillor for the Edgewater Division, says the requisite court order has been secured for the demolition to proceed.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the councillors are now preparing to write to Prime Minister Andrew Holness requesting that he give an order for the demolition exercise.
Addressing the recent monthly meeting of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, Mr. Campbell explained that the intervention of the Prime Minister is being sought after the municipality failed to get assistance from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
"We would have written a joint correspondence with the police to the JDF who are of engineers. We went ahead and got a demolition order from the courts and to date, nothing has come. So, since the Prime Minister has taken on this demolition [near Clifton], I just want you to ask him to assist us in Portmore," the councillor said.
