Barbados offering booster shot of AstraZeneca vaccine to some people

Barbados is offering an optional booster shot of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 to persons who meet specific criteria.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Co-coordinator of the National Vaccination Programme, Dr. Elizabeth Ferdinand.

Dr. Ferdinand said fully vaccinated people over the age of 70, those who are immuno-compromised, as well as frontline workers would be among the first recipients.

Health care workers at the country's public hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, were among the first to receive their booster shots on Wednesday.

Latest statistics show 43.7 per cent of the Barbadian population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
