A 63-year-old British retiree who was caught attempting to smuggle millions of dollars worth of cocaine through one of Jamaica's international airports, has been charged.
Valerie Reid, a resident of London, England was charged on Monday.
She is booked to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on June 7.
The retiree was captured on May 26 while preparing to board an outgoing flight at Norman Manley International Airport.
The narcotics police reported that two parcels containing cocaine weighing approximately 2.5 kilogrammes were found concealed in her luggage.
The drug has street value of £75,000.
Ms. Reid is among almost a dozen British nationals captured by local police attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the island over the last month.
The Narcotics police say the Britons are couriers of an international drug trafficking ring operating between Jamaica and the UK.
More than a $100 million worth of cocaine has been seized.
