RJR News has received information on a possible reason for the decision of Jevene Bent, Head of the Department of Corrections, to quit the post.
Well placed sources say her imminent departure is linked to the department's limited budget. She had reportedly indicated her unwillingness to work with the limited resources.
This has been communicated to senior officials in the National Security Ministry as well as the Services Commission.
When RJR News contacted Aston Johnson, Senior Negotiating Officer with the University and Allied Workers Union, he said Miss Bent hinted that she would be leaving if she did not get a workable budget.
RJR News was informed that Miss Bent, a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, tendered her resignation last week just over a year into her two year- contract.
She is expected to stay on for at least a month until a temporary replacement is identified.
